M. Brandon Jones, PhD

graduated from Lincoln University (PA) in 1991 with a BA in Biology and a minor in Chinese. He received his Masters (1994) and PhD (2003) in Marine Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Delaware’s College of Marine Studies (CMS), joining the EPA’s National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) in 2003.
His graduate work focused on larval transport, patch structure and recruitment of blue crab larvae. As part of his studies, he was able to take two dives on ALVIN, the three-person research submarine that makes deep-sea dives to study hydrothermal vents. Dr. Jones
was the educational coordinator for the website associated with Alvin’s mission (www.ocean.udel.edu/extreme2001).
Prior to his postgraduate studies, he taught high school science
at Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, MD for five years.
At NCER, he serves as a project officer in EPA’s Science To Achieve Results (STAR) Program. Dr. Jones is a member of the ecosystem and project officer policy teams and manages several suites of grants that include wildlife, impacts of urbanization on aquatic ecosystems and statistical centers, also using his
ecological expertise in the management of approximately 75 STAR fellowships, which focus primarily on the dynamics of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Jones is a member of the Alpha Phi
Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
